Beth Ditto and Tim Walker have a crazy, lightning-in-a-bottle kind of chemistry. Just look at our cover story! This shoot should have been an absolute nightmare to orchestrate — different continents, clashing schedules, psychedelic personalities — and yet, it wasn’t. Beth and Tim really wanted to work together again so they just made it happen. The result? A bonkers, joyful reunion featuring face-billiards, man-chairs and a bull whip... Welcome to our special Fashion Edition.
Fashion can sometimes feel like a sausage factory, pumping out more stuff than we could ever need or want. Its point often gets lost in all the product drops and Insta posts. Then a runway show comes along that reminds everyone what fashion can be and why it’s so important. That show was last month’s Margiela couture extravaganza (if you don’t know, then google it from under your rock and report back) and it made us all fall in love with fashion again. That it was the brainchild of disgraced/reformed designer John Galliano made it even more poignant.
With the new Galliano doc High and Low on the way, in this issue we track the couturier’s road to redemption. Elsewhere, there’s a celebration of 40 years of LFW from its humble Ab Fab days to the latest crop of superstars (hello, Paolo Carzana); an interview with the man who brought the Margiela models to life (are you picking up a theme yet?); a beauty masterclass from Lucia Pica; how to look like a Moto Mother (it’s a thing); and My London with actress Gwendoline Christie, who also walked in the Margiela show. Obsessed? Moi?
