Inside the new-look ITV I'm A Celebrity camp as changes made for 2022 - and first look at first trial

The countdown is well and truly on for the brand new series of I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here landing on screens. And, with just days to go before a bunch of new campmates enter the Australian jungle for the first time in two years, fans have been given a look at the new camp the celebrities will be calling home this year.

Coronation Street’s Sue Cleaver, reality TV star Olivia Attwood, radio DJ Chris Moyles, rugby star and royal Mike Tindall plus Loose Women star Charlene White are just some of those who have headed to Australia to swap their everyday lives for life in the jungle as the ITV reality show returns to its spiritual home.

Making up this year's batch of campmates are Boy George, Hollyoaks’ Owen Warner, TV presenter and property expert Scarlette Douglas, former footballer Jill Scott and comedian Babatunde Aleshe.

The line-up was revealed earlier this week as I'm A Celeb 2022 will be premiering on Sunday, November 6, at 9pm, with a 105-minute special. The start date is slightly earlier than usual to avoid a clash with the 2022 FIFA World Cup, which kicks off in Qatar on Sunday, November 20.

And the show has been hitting the headlines for other reasons this week after it was revealed that Matt Hancock would be heading Down Under as a surprise addition to the cast this year. The former health secretary is reportedly set to enter camp alongside comedian Seann Walsh.

Matt himself has confirmed his own signing as he was snapped arriving at Brisbane Airport as well as writing an article to defend his decision to say yes to appearing on the popular programme. And I'm A Celeb's boss has also spoken out about the signing of the MP signing as viewers threaten to switch off.

But aside from the signing news, a first look at the new-look camp has been revealed. Three years after Ant McPartlin and Dec Donnelly last hosted the show from Australia, the jungle camp has undergone a bit of a makeover. While fans may think it looks the same, it has actually been made slightly bigger this year.

Bunkbeds have been installed in the campsite for the first time in its two-decade run, and a new luxury motorhome has also been parked at the top of the outdoor space which will be used to house two celebrities who will be voted into power in the camp like seen in the previous series.

On the new larger space, I'm A Celeb's executive producer Olly Nash said: "It's much bigger than we've ever done before. And we're filming more(challenges) than we've ever filmed before."

And discussing the new sleeping arrangements, he added: "The campfire is still very much the same but we have bunk beds which is a first for I'm A Celebrity and then we have a Luxury RV(motorhome) that was driven through the jungle about 35 years ago, broke down and was never moved."

"That will make a very comfy home for two people inside there. They won't be in there at the start but on day three, two people will win the right to sleep in there."

Things that haven't changed are the iconic I'm A Celebrity bridge which will see the celebs cross back and forth for Bushtucker trials or if they are voted off the show. The waterfall shower and a bathtub remains. However, they will need to get on a tandem and cycle in order to see the tub fill up with water.

And he also had a bit of a tease about the first episode on Sunday (November 6): "There'll be more elements lasting over more shows than has happened before too, so it's not all just going to be limited to show one. Not all celebrities will be here in camp at the end of Sunday's show."

Meanwhile, it looks like the campmates kick off their jungle experience by dangling in the air atop a 32-storey building. New pictures show members of the production team testing out the challenge the brave celebrities will face during the opening show, which is likely to be pre-recorded. The snaps show them walking to the edge of the unsteady platform before moving being able to get off and head to camp.
