Inside Leeds United players' angry meetings with Jesse Marsch about story of dressing room revolt

Incensed by reports they had called for Jesse Marsch’s sacking in the Leeds United boardroom behind his back, senior players went directly to the head coach to rubbish the story this week. Rather than allow Marsch to fear the worst, players wanted to nip the headline in the bud with the American.

Marsch first acknowledged the story had reached him in the post-match media briefings on Wednesday night. The head coach branded the report ‘awful’ and was asked about the topic again in Friday’s pre-match press conference.

While criticism of Marsch’s coaching or the players’ performances through poor runs of form are part and parcel of their professional lives, the 49-year-old felt fabrications about dressing room mutinies went beyond the pale. He today revealed how angry the players had been about the story too.
