Inside countryside estate that has been abandoned for three decades after owners die

Rare images have come to light showing the inside of an affluent countryside estate that has been left abandoned for three decades following the mysterious deaths of the owners.

The images, taken by an urban explorer, show furniture and mementos left to rot inside the massive country pile.

The brick mid-century home in Georgia, US, used to belong to a successful businessman and his wife, according to the photographer, but the house has now sat abandoned for decades.

The images tell a sad story of a home left full of personal possessions, unclaimed after their owners died and left to fall into disrepair.

Once elegant furniture is slowly being devoured by mould while some rooms are left almost untouched by time, whereas others are ransacked and water damaged.

One of the eerie photographs shows what appears to be back molars of false teeth surrounded by photographs of the family that once lived there.

Another image shows the once elegant furniture rotting with black mould and in another photograph, champagne glasses can be seen resting on a glass table inside a ransacked kitchen.

All that is really known about the home is that it used to be lived in by a couple who also owned a local department store.

These images were captured by urbex photographer Leland Kent, also known by his handle Abandoned Southeast.

"According to property records, this 4,200-square-foot brick mid-century home in Georgia was built in 1962," Leland said on his blog which can be accessed by clicking here.

The brickwork house is believed to have been the home of a couple who owned a local department store (mediadrumimages/abandoned southeast)

"The owners operated a department store until their retirement in the 1980s.

"The husband died in the 1990s and the wife died several years ago.

"Several clues inside hint at the couple’s once-affluent lifestyle.

"Sadly, now the property sits abandoned and the reason remains a mystery.”

It is unknown whether the couple had any living relatives and why their executors were unable or unwilling to sort through their things after death.

What remains of the house is an eerie testament to the lives of the affluent couple who once called the mansion home.

Meanwhile urban explorers in Scotland have posted video from the inside of a mansion belonging to famous fashion designer Coco Chanel.

The home, which was once Ms Chanel's secret hideaway, is still full of luxury finds formerly owned by the fashion designer.

The Highlands mansion was home to the founder of Chanel and she lived there in the 1920s with her lover Hugh Grosvenor.

Urban explorer Matt from Youtube channel Finders Beepers took a look around the abandoned property in 2020, stating that the home “smells just like Chanel No. 5”.
