Injured Hardik Pandya ruled out of World Cup, replaced by Prasidh Krishna

NEW DELHI: India's worst fears came true on Saturday as all-rounder Hardik Pandya was ruled out of the remainder of the ICC World Cup 2023, failing to fully recover from the ankle injury he suffered during India's match against Bangladesh.

The technical committee of the tournament has approved India's request to replace Hardik with fast bowler Prasidh Krishna, who has played only 17 ODIs and 2 T20Is for India in his short career so far. He has taken 33 international wickets -- 29 in ODIs and 4 in T20Is

With India's pace department of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj doing wonders in the team's seven-match unbeaten run to become the first team to reach the semi-finals, Krishna's chances of getting a place in the playing eleven are doubtful.

"With the Event Technical Committee approving India's replacement player on Saturday, it means Krishna is available for selection for Sunday's crucial World Cup clash against fellow tournament pace-setter South Africa," read an ICC release on the development.

India lead the 10-team table with 14 points and have round-robin matches left against South Africa (Nov 5) and the Netherlands (Nov 12).
