Infantino denies secret six-figure payment to alleged lover

  • Gianni Infantino has denied claims that Uefa paid a six-figure sum to an alleged lover during his tenure at European football's governing body.
  • An investigation by The Telegraph reported that Uefa made the payment to a woman who allegedly had a relationship with Infantino, who is married with four children, while he was Uefa’s general secretary between 2009 and 2016.
  • Uefa said that a “departure payment” was made to the woman, saying that it was in line with existing regulations at the time, which have since been tightened.
  • A Fifa spokesperson disputed the allegations, telling The Telegraph that they are “categorically untrue” and “defamatory”, and denying any inappropriate conduct by Infantino.
  • These claims add to the pressure on Infantino, who recently faced controversy over a plan to sell stakes in the World Cup and is up for re-election as Fifa president in March 2027.
