INDORE: Many of the liquor outlets in the city seem to have been violating their licence conditions by displaying advertisements of liquor brands on their signage boards. Indore police have asked the district excise department to direct all licence liquor outlets in the city to remove advertisements of liquor brands, flexes, neon signs etc. from their entrance.
DCP (Zone-2) Sampat Upadhyay said that licenced liquor outlets operational in areas like Vijay Nagar, Scheme-54, Scheme-78, AB Road, Lasudia, Kanadia, Bypass Road, Khajrana etc., are displaying advertisements at their entrances.
“This is a clear violation of rule number 28 of the new state excise policy, and we have written to the district excise department authorities and requested them to take appropriate action in the matter,” Upadhyay told TOI. He added that the excise policy rule says that licenced liquor shops are not allowed to display advertisements of liquor brands on their signage and it is a clear violation of their licence conditions.
Assistant district excise officer Rajnarayan Soni said that they are waiting for details of shops displaying advertisements at their entrances and take action accordingly.
“We will issue show cause notices to all such outlets and instruct them to immediately remove advertisements from their entrances,” he said, while adding that any delay in the same can lead to immediate suspension or termination of the licence too.
Excise department officials said that the rule says that the name of the liquor shop could be displayed on boards having a maximum six of 10x4 sq ft.
It includes the space for displaying the type of the liquor shop, licence number, licence period, licensee’s name, and location, too.
The rule also says that the board should also have a message ‘alcohol consumption is injurious to health’. “No information other than this should be mentioned on the board,” they pointed out.
