Indiana Republican Party Sends Out Election Day Text Warning Voters Their Friends and Family 'Will Know If You Stood with Trump'"

A Republican campaign sent out a mass text warning Indiana voters their friends and family will "know if you stood with Trump."

The mass text went was sent to voters by the campaign of Indiana Senator Mike Braun (R), who is currently running for governor of the state. Below the campaign's "Braun for Indiana" insignia, a picture of a triumphant post-assassination attempt Trump is the backdrop for a reminder that "Polls are Open 6am-6pm."

"Voting records are public -- your friends, neighbors, and family will know if you stood with Trump when it mattered most. 🇺🇸🔥," the text reads.

"Tomorrow is Election Day -- your last chance to make a difference," the message continues. "Whether or not you vote is public, and your community will see if you stood with Trump or stayed home. Don't let your country down when our future is on the line."

Voters reacted angrily to Braun's message. Social media user @adammocklerr posted a screenshot of the text, to which he had replied "Wow. Way to fear monger."

Commenters shared his reaction, calling the message "intimidation," and pointing out the message's false implication about voters' privacy.

While state laws vary, Indiana state voter files are open, but that doesn't mean the contents of an Indiana voter's ballots are public. Voting history, gender, age, phone number, e-mail address, and other sensitive information is kept confidential, according to the U.S. Election Assistance Commission.

Indiana's open voter registration list only reveals names, addresses, and whether or not the person voted in the primary election. The only way a friend, family, or neighbor can know with certainty that an Indiana resident didn't vote for Trump is if they did not vote at all.
