Grandmaster Vidit Gujrathi never intended to become a chess player. Growing up, he witnessed his parents, both doctors, being summoned to work at irregular hours, which led him to believe that a career in sports would offer more relaxation. This "error of judgement," as he calls it, has ultimately proven to be a blessing in disguise.
At the age of 29, Gujrathi, hailing from Nashik, is set to represent Mumba Masters in the second season of the Global Chess League. The event, a collaboration between Tech Mahindra and FIDE, will take place in London from October 3 to 12.
