The 4.3 million-tube toothpaste recall now reaching families is at least the second recall of toothpaste made by an Indian manufacturer to top 4 million units in less than 18 months. In spring 2025, the FDA posted an update on a recall of 4,617,316 toothpaste tubes and sachets from Kenil Healthcare Private Limited of India, also for deviations from current good manufacturing practice (CGMP) rules, The Healthy reported. Those products were distributed in Delaware and North Carolina by a company that supplies correctional facilities. Both recalls cited the same broad reason and gave the public few details about what went wrong.
For parents, the concern is not an immediate poisoning risk. No illnesses or injuries have been reported, and the FDA rated the current recall Class II. The deeper issue is that fluoride toothpaste is an over-the-counter drug that children use twice a day, and families often learn about quality problems only through federal databases that most shoppers do not monitor.
