India exists beyond Bengal, says Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma after Rahul Gandhi's tweet

GUWAHATI: Taking forward PM Narendra Modi’s attacks on Rahul Gandhi in Parliament, Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma has fired a fresh salvo at the Congress leader by correcting him on the country’s geography.

While tweeting on the raging debate over hijab, Rahul on Thursday got it wrong while describing the lateral extent of the country, which immediately caught Sarma’s attention. Rahul tweeted, “There is strength in our Union. Our Union of Cultures. Our Union of Diversity. Our Union of Languages. Our Union of People. Our Union of States. From Kashmir to Kerala. From Gujarat to West Bengal. India is beautiful in all its colours. Don’t insult the spirit of India.” Reacting to this, Sarma replied, “…And hello- beyond Bengal, we North east exist.”

Sarma further said in his tweet, “India is far beyond just a union. We are a proud Nation. Bharat cannot be held hostage to your tukde tukde philosophy. What is your problem with Nation, Nationality and Nationalism?
