Inaccurate Crows still unbeaten in AFLW

AFLW flag contenders Adelaide have overcome a wayward display in front of goal to post a comprehensive 39-point victory over Carlton, extending their winning streak to five matches.

The unbeaten Crows wrested control of the contest during the second quarter but couldn't make their dominance count fully on the scoreboard, posting 2.7 in the first half.

It made for some nervous moments as the Blues fought back into the contest during the third term.

But outstanding performances from Ebony Marinoff and Anne Hatchard, plus a four-goal final quarter, steered the Crows home in a 7.9 (51) to 1.6 (12) win at Ikon Park.

Superstar Erin Phillips was the most inaccurate Adelaide forward, kicking her full score of 0.4 from 13 disposals in the first half.

Phillips finished with 19 touches under the close watch of Kerryn Harrington after the main break.

The competition's all-time leading goal-kicker is in a battle with Carlton's Darcy Vescio to become the first player to reach 50 career goals, but neither managed a major on Sunday.

Ailish Considine, Caitlin Gould and Hatchard all kicked goals to give the Crows an 18-point lead by three-quarter time.

The margin blew out in the final term, with further goals to Danielle Ponter, Lisa Whiteley, Eloise Jones and Considine putting the result beyond doubt.

Jones' late snap, set up by a handpass from Phillips under pressure from Harrington on the boundary line, was the icing on the cake for Adelaide.

Mimi Hill made a strong return for Carlton after a year out with a knee injury, gathering 25 disposals in an impressive display.

Grace Egan also returned, having broken two ribs and punctured a lung in round one, and finished with 18 touches, but the Blues lost Brooke Vickers to a right ankle injury before half-time.

Georgia Gee was Carlton's only goal-kicker, while Madison Prespakis had 23 disposals.
