A policy committee inside the American Association of Immunologists recommended this summer that the society withdraw its endorsement of California's Proposition 38, according to internal emails reported by STAT. The society's governing council later voted to keep the endorsement after meeting with the measure's leading backer.
Prop 38, on the Nov. 3 ballot, would let California borrow $8.4 billion for immunology and immunotherapy research. About half of the money would go to a single research institute. STAT's report describes an internal disagreement and does not allege wrongdoing.
