Illinois Democrats are working behind-the-scenes to drum up support to ban assault weapons and large-capacity magazines — as Gov. J.B. Pritzker and state lawmakers also look at ways to fix shortcomings in the state’s firearm owner identification card system and pass other gun control measures.
The goal in the aftermath of the July Fourth Highland Park massacre is to limit military style weapons and keep those and other firearms out of the hands of people considered dangerous to themselves or others.
