January 31 wasn't the best day to release a life sim. Hello Kitty Island Adventure had just come out and EA stealthily launched a controversial re-release of the first two mainline The Sims classics. My Little Life had the unfortunate luck of coming out in the shadow of the The Sim Legacy Collection, but it's faring much better with 93% of user reviews leaving a thumbs up on Steam for blending Maxis' life sim progression with the joys that come with having a little Tamagotchi friend.
