Iconic Furby toy makes comeback - but not all are excited about 'scary' robot's return

People born in the 90s will likely remember Furby, as the owl-like creature was a "must-have" for kids. It could speak, was adorably fluffy, and it captured the imaginations of many.

Yes, there were downsides, like when it came to life in the middle of the night to wake you up, and it seemed impossible to get it to shut up - but no doubt a nostalgic toy for many.

And Hasbro has now announced that they're bringing back the toy, capitalising on the nostalgia - but people have mixed feelings about the cult classic coming back to life under the same name.

The new Furby is back and more colourful than ever (Hasbro)

The new and improved Furby has its familiar bulbous eyes, yellow beak, and colourful fur, and also speaks in gibberish, responding to physical tough from its owners - much like the one people knew and loved when it first released in 1998.

But not everyone welcomes the return of Furby, as some of them felt creeped out by the toy when they were younger.

Taking to Twitter, many people shared their mixed feelings about the relaunch.

One person used the announcement as an opportunity to post their original "Furby family", sharing all the toys they'd collected over the years.

One wrote: "They were scary, looking back - weird fur texture, strange gravelly-granny voice, if I remember rightly."

Another fumed: "They really brought back Furby's. Those b***hes would go off randomly at like 3am when I was a kid and I'm convinced they picked up ghosts on those sensors they had on them. [sic]"

"Furby, the bug-eyed, gibberish-talking 90s toy phenomenon, has been revived - again", an unimpressed Twitter user sighed.

But others had a polarised reaction and were excited for the brightly coloured bird to return.

"What a hit of nostalgia", a Furby fan gushed.

"The new Furby was announced and this is huge", someone praised. "I'm so happy even though it's not 100% the direction I'd wish for. It's good!! I think they're finding better grounds than before. It's cute!"

"I love them, ahhh, they're so cute", another wrote.
