Iceland mocks The Crown in cheeky Christmas advert that nods to infamous disclaimer

The latest instalment of The Crown was got the world abuzz, thanks to its fictional account of Princess Diana's final days. But the Netflix series is not the only crown soon to be on everyone's lips. With the release of Iceland' s highly-anticipated Christmas advert, attention is also turning to crowns of a much different variety.

A parody of the popular show's opening credits, the festive clip looks worthy of a Royal premiere. However, this time it is the turkey crown taking the spotlight. Filmed in a similar style to the series' opening scene, the hilarious spoof puts the humble Christmas dinner at its cinematic centre, and as soon as the credits roll, it is clear the occasion will be a big deal.

Set to an extravagant backdrop with moody lighting, each of one family's roles are listed on screen. There's dad as cooker, mum as baster, dog as security, grandad as carver and gran as executive producer.

Continuing with its tongue-in-cheek approach, the advert concludes with the bold claim "fit for royalty", before explaining the supermarket's clip is a fictionalised portrayal, in a nod to the show's much-talked-about disclaimer.

Caspar Nelson, Marketing Director at Iceland Foods said: "We bow down to Netflix’s family orientated drama and pay homage to the fictional dramatisation in our version of The Crown.

"We do want to point out the differences though. Our version is inspired by the real-life events of a frozen turkey and the political and personal events that shape a delicious Christmas dinner."

The jewel in the film's crown is Iceland’s rotating Luxury Perfect Turkey Crown, which retails at £20 for 2.2kg. Customers looking to enjoy one of the turkey's themselves must register for Iceland’s 'Turkey Insurance' by November 18 to ensure their festive centrepiece wings its way to them by Christmas.

The supermarket has also promised that every customer who applies for Iceland’s Turkey Insurance is guaranteed a turkey and a Christmas delivery slot, "no matter what".
