Iceland boss issues £35 air fryer update as product flies off shelves

Iceland bosses have given an update as a popular air fryer product flew off their shelves.

The discount frozen grocer announced last week that it would be selling the £35 Tower 4 Air Fryer last weekend (October 8). Just days later the product was sold out both in stores and online, leaving many customers frustrated over not being able to get their hands on one.

But now bosses of the supermarket giant have promised there should be more air fryers on the way very soon. Richard Walker went to Twitter to shout about the success about how it sold out in "days", reported Birmingham Live.

He wrote: "We had 20,000 & will have sold out within days. At £35 it’s a market-beating price (at which we don’t make a profit), AND saves money ongoing compared to cooking in a conventional oven".

Air fryers have been a popular alternative for many families who want to save cash instead of heating their oven. On average air fryers use between 1,400 and 1,700 watts of electricity which converts to between 1.4kwh and 1.7kwh per hour of use. The average cost to fun an air fryer will depend on the energy prices and how long you use your air fryer within a month period.

Ben Gallizzi, energy expert at Uswitch.com, said: “Ovens can be quite an energy intensive way of cooking food, especially if you’re only using one of the racks. Some air fryers use a similar amount of power to an oven, but you save money because you need to use them for a much shorter time. Whereas it can take up to ten mins for some ovens to get up to temperature, most air fryers are ready in just three.

“Two boneless chicken breasts may take 15-18 minutes in an air fryer, but up to half an hour in an oven. So while it could cost around 17p to cook the chicken in an oven, it would cost about half that in an air fryer.”
