Ian Machado Garry is not afraid to get tested in his title pursuit.
The undefeated Irishman has made waves since entering the UFC, and is coming off a knockout of Daniel Rodriguez, and most recently a dominant showing against Neil Magny at UFC 292.
Garry (13-0 MMA, 6-0 UFC) wants to go toe-to-toe with Stephen Thompson next, and then he’s ready to take on the elite wrestlers of the division like former champion Kamaru Usman, and current title challenger Colby Covington.
“I want to get the title as the best striker in the division, and that comes when I knock out ‘Wonderboy,’ Garry told Severe MMA. “And that’s when that will come. And then after that, I want to start tackling the grapplers and the wrestlers, because I want to show the world that I’m not just a striker, and anyone who’s ever trained with me knows that I can do it all.
“So to fight the Usmans, to fight the Colbys, to fight whoever they f*cking put in front of me that’s going to want to take me down and get rid of my hands and my feet. I’m excited to show the world what else is there. I’m excited to show the world what else I’m capable of.”
Not only does Garry think he can top the likes of Usman and Covington, he’s confident he can beat them at their own game.
“Look, I’m telling you now, anybody,” Garry continued. “You give me Sean Brady as a grappler, I’ll sub him. You give me f*cking Usman or Colby, I’ll outgrapple them or I’ll outwrestle them. I don’t care what it is, I will find a way to win. It’s what I do, I’m a competitor. And above all else, I will get my hand raised.”
