Tony Cascarino is concerned for Everton ahead of the new Premier League season and believes Frank Lampard’s side 'lack a lot of things'.
The Blues survived by four points last season after a superb late revival under Lampard. Crucial wins at Goodison Park against Manchester United, Chelsea, Crystal Palace and an away victory over Leicester City helped to avoid disaster in what was otherwise a grim season for Evertonians.
There is hope that Lampard, backed by Director of Football Kevin Thelwell, will be able to reshape the squad and push the Blues up the table. However, Cascarino was pessimistic when asked about their chances this season and believes they are in for another tough campaign.

“I would be concerned if I was an Evertonian,” he told talkSPORT. “They had a dreadful season. Got out of jail.
“They lack a lot of things, certainly defensively. Going into the new season, I wouldn’t be that optimistic. They might lose Richarlison and maybe even Calvert-Lewin. There is an air of ‘I am not sure where they are going to go’. I don’t see them being midtable and above. I think it will be below midtable and just above that relegation zone.”
Cascarino also commented on Everton’s transfer business and was heavily critical, believing that the rumours linking the club with a loan move of Harry Winks are symptomatic of the disastrous financial situation at the club.
He said: “Their transfer activity has so far been Harry Winks being linked. More of a loan deal than actually buying. I’m not sure where Everton are as a club. I think it’s going to be another tricky season for Everton.
“It’s dire [Everton’s financial situation]. There was talk of an embargo, which sort of happened last summer when they spent £1.7 million. Is it going to be the same scenario? The Harry Winks deal feels like, ‘we aren’t going to buy somebody, we are going to try and loan in someone’. I am more pessimistic for Everton.”
