Brad Pitt has responded to allegations by ex-wife Angelina Jolie of violence and abuse towards her and their children, insisting he is “not going to own anything he didn’t do”.
Jolie, 47, has accused the Hollywood actor of pouring wine and beer over their children’s heads and “choking” one during an alleged outburst on a private jet flight from France to Los Angeles.
She claims Pitt, 58, pushed her against the wall during a confrontation in the plane’s bathroom, and says the incident ended their marriage.
Pitt’s lawyer, Anne Kiley, said today that the Troy and Fight Club star would “respond in court” to the allegations, as she hinted at denials to the claims.
“Brad has owned everything he’s responsible for from day one — unlike the other side — but he’s not going to own anything he didn’t do,” she said.
“He has been on the receiving end of every type of personal attack and misrepresentation. Thankfully, the various public authorities the other side has tried to use against him over the past six years have made their own independent decisions.
“Brad will continue to respond in court as he has consistently done.”
Jolie, the star of Maleficent and The Tourist who is also a UN Envoy, made public this week a series of allegations about Pitt in a filing to the Superior Court of California.
“On September 14, 2016, Jolie’s marriage came to an end,” court papers state, detailing her claims about the private jet flight.
“Throughout the long, overnight flight, Pitt was physically and emotionally abusive to Jolie and their children, who were then between the ages of eight and 15.”
The actress claims a row over bringing up their children became violent when Pitt “grabbed her shoulders… and pushed her into the bathroom wall”.
She claims he “lunged” at one of their children who intervened, and in a violent tussle he “choked one of the children and struck another in the face”.
The incident was investigated by the FBI did not result in criminal charges.
The former couple adopted Maddox, 21, Pax, 18, and Zahara, 17, and also have biological children Shiloh, 16, and twins Knox and Vivienne, 14.
The allegations against Pitt have been made in a legal dispute over Chateau Miraval, a French home and vineyard which they bought for £20 million in 2008. Pitt says Jolie is orchestrating a “hostile” takeover of the wine business by bringing in Russian Yuri Shefler.
