Bristol is filled with beautiful charity shops, selling stunning items at a steal of the price compared to being bought new. I decided to head down to one of the city’s biggest stores, The British Heart Foundation, to see what bargains I could find.
It’s no surprise there are a lot of items on sale there, upon walking up to the store, you notice how much space they have. Stretched across two large floors, the city centre store is filled with hidden gems waiting to be discovered.
The first thing I noticed was that all the furniture items are sat at the front of the store, which is probably one of the more popular sections as furniture can be extremely expensive these days. Here, I spotted my first bargain - a comfy leather armchair, selling for just £40.

Now you might say, it’s still £40, but compared to a brand new one, it’s a bargain. By comparison, a similar item selling in Habitat costs around £550.
The next gem I noticed was a TV which was marked up at a good price for its size. To purchase this flat screen it would set you back just £85. For a similar size at Curry's, you'd be paying £1,000 upwards. Obviously, you can’t fully determine how good of a bargain this is until you get the chance to see it working, but judging by the state of it, it was looked after well by its previous owners.

As I was wandering around the trinket section I noticed a beautiful dining set, which was probably one of my favourite items I found. The set was a Winnie the Pooh-themed set with a few different designs of the Disney characters, consisting of 12 parts, four bowls, four small plates and four big dinner plates.
This set was absolutely stunning, it would cost you £34.99, which I feel may be slightly much but considering what the item is, I’m not massively surprised at. Not only does the place sell pre-loved items, they also sell brand new items which range from different jewellery items to hair fascinators normally worn at weddings.
You also had your classic charity shop items as well with books costing as little as 50p and donated clothing which you could get for half price from certain rails. Another of my favourite items was a very cute elephant doorstop which would set you back just £15 and for an incredibly cute elephant like that how could you say no?
Overall, while charity shops aren’t as cheap as they used to be, and the bargains not as good, you can still find some really good deals for things that would otherwise cost you an absolute fortune.
