NEW DELHI: Seasoned table tennis player Sharath Kamal expressed his astonishment upon learning that he had been selected as India's flagbearer for the upcoming Paris Olympics. The decision came as a surprise to him, considering the presence of other notable athletes such as Neeraj Chopra, who clinched a gold medal at the Tokyo Games. Kamal viewed this honour as an acknowledgment of his long-standing dedication and hard work in his sport.
The Indian Olympic Association's (IOA) choice to designate Kamal as the flagbearer for the Paris Games sparked a controversy, with the Tamil Nadu Athletics Association (TNAA) expressing their dissatisfaction in a forceful manner.
