“I visited Bristol's coolest area and could have spent hours exploring"

With so many amazing places to live in Bristol, people are really spoilt for choice on where they want in the city they want to call home. In recent weeks, the different areas of Bristol were put into a poll to see which came out on top as the ‘coolest’ place to live.

The results showed that Bristol’s harbourside was awarded the sought-after title. The beautiful waterside area was closely followed by Montpelier, Cotham, Clifton and Southville.

But what makes this area of the city the ‘coolest’ place to live? The Harbourside has always been a hive of activity, especially when it was a working dock full of sailors and merchants and now it has changed into a place full of restaurants and things to do. I headed down to the harbourside to see what makes it such a cool place to live, I did head down early in the day so not much was open.

Upon arriving at the harbourside, the first thing I really noticed was there are plenty of things to keep people entertained. As it was early on a Monday morning when I headed down, not much was open but I can imagine during the summer this area is packed with people going for walks and having a drink after work.

For those who are looking for a day out, the area has a few things to offer. The aquarium provides the perfect underwater experience for families and friends, with sea life from all across the globe to be viewed. Another place great for children is We The Curious, the ‘hands-on discovery attraction’ for all to experience. This venue has an impressive silver ball outside, which tourists seem to flock to for the perfect Instagram picture.

The one thing the Harbourside is not short of is places to get a cold pint during the summer months. Despite the Watershed being the designated place of independent film and digital media, the place, along with the V Shed, has an array of different bars and restaurants for people to enjoy. From Wetherspoons to Zaza’s residents and visitors alike have a lot to choose from.

On a nice day a walk around the Harbourside is also a must, a walk down by the water provides the fresh air you need but also the beautiful views of the water. There's also the option to take to the water on the city's popular ferries.

And for walkers, there is the perfect circular route around the harbour, boasting stunning views and lovely pubs along the way. Millennium Square hosts a number of events throughout the year, from winter markets to summer beaches.

I will definitely be heading down there myself for a walk at a time when the place is more alive.
