‘I’ve bet on Callum Wilson getting a brace today’ - Newcastle United supporters react to bizarre tooth injury

Newcastle United fans were horrified after Callum Wilson suffered a bizarre injury against Arsenal. Pre-match excitement reached fever pitch when the line-ups were announced and Wilson - who has not started since December 27 - featured on the team sheet.

He made his long-awaited return from a torn calf against Manchester City last weekend, replacing Chris Wood on 68 minutes with the Magpies 3-0. However, it did not take long for the number nine to pick up another knock when he lost a tooth in the first half against the Gunners.

Wearing the captain’s armband, Wilson battled on after receiving treatment but Toon supporters were quick to express their anguish on social media. Some seized the opportunity to fire a witty joke at the 30-year-old’s expense.

@SavMondo: NGL if that happened to my tooth I’d have an anxiety attack and need to be stretchered off.

@NUFCcook: Callum Wilson can’t catch a break, he’s an ‘injury’ magnet. Lost a tooth for the cause now #nufc

@geordiedentist: Had on Callum I’m on me way…

@alanjonesguitar: I’ve got a bet on Callum Wilson getting a brace on his return today? Do you think they’ll still pay out? #nufc

@scottwilson1984: Having time to rethink my previous tweet, I now think Callum Wilson is toothless in the attack... #NUFC

@GianfrancoShola: I find it incredibly disconcerting how relaxed Wilson is being about his beautiful face #nufc
