"I tried the TikTok heatless overnight blowout curls and they were a disaster"

TikTok hacks have become a major part of Millennials' everyday life, with many sharing their tips for doing things quicker or in ingenious ways. The latest craze is the new overnight blowout curls and you only need two items to do it.

It has very few steps and you don’t need to sit in front of the mirror for hours. In the TikTok videos, you start out by sectioning your hair into two parts, one at the front and one at the back, you may need more if you have thicker hair. Once sectioned, take your bendy rollers and put them in a sock, before rolling up towards the top of your head. Repeat with the second section and leave overnight.

After studying the video, I decided to see if it actually worked. I followed the instructions set out in the video from start to finish, with a little confusion along the way. I found that my hair didn’t want to play ball and actually be wound around the sock covered rollers and once I had managed to get them wound they didn’t want to stay on the top of my head.

I feel while the tutorial was good and very detailed, it didn’t give tips for if your hair wasn’t wanting to do what it should be. I did also wonder that maybe this isn’t a hairstyle for those with medium-length hair, as being just past my shoulders there’s not that much to actually roll up onto my head.

Thinking I would trust the process, I headed to bed for the night leaving the rollers in as it says. I must say it definitely wasn’t the best sleep of my life, I couldn’t get into a comfortable position as I had rollers sticking out in weird directions.

Getting up in the morning I was intrigued to see how they would turn out and as it so happens, I was probably right about my hair not being right for the method. My hair was a massive poofy mess, all frizzy and not exactly curly like I had intended by using this method. I will admit, in the video, she does cover the rolled-up hair in a bonnet of some kind, but I did not have one of these so I skipped this part.

I think, while a great idea, the heatless aspect doesn’t really work, if you were to maybe curl your hair with a curling wand prior to rolling it up then it might come out more successful. It was a bit of fun but I don’t think I’ll be trying the method again anytime soon.
