I tried The Apprentice’s Amy Anzel’s pain-free hair removal tool and now I’m peach-fuzz free

I’ve been going to salons to have dermaplaning facials for years, and probably spend around £200 a year keeping my skin fuzz-free. I’d never previously dared to do a DIY job at home - until I came across Hollywood Browzer.

Founded by Amy Anzel, a former Apprentice contestant, Hollywood Browzer Beauty offers ‘painless at home hair removal’, and it’s so easy to use.

The entrepreneur took part in the 16th series BBCs The Apprentice, but was 'fired' by Lord Sugar in the sixth week. Amy launched her beauty brand in 2017, as she wanted everyone to ‘experience the same tools that Hollywood celebrities have used on them by their makeup artists’.

I tried out the Hollywood Browzer Beauty ultimate pamper kit which includes all of the brand's products and everything you need to create a peach-fuzz free face, which is perfect for summer.

For those unfamiliar with dermaplaning, it’s a form of facial exfoliation that removes the top layer of dead skin cells and hair, leaving your base flawlessly smooth. It’s a grossly satisfying process and every time I’m half impressed and half horrified at the amount of hair that’s been scraped from my skin.

One massive misconception about dermaplaning is that it makes your hair grow back thicker and faster, but it’s really not the case. Dr Tiago Guimaraes, an Aesthetician and Plastic Surgeon explained: “Dermaplaning, which is a form of facial exfoliation that removes the top layer of dead skin cells and hair, does not change the structure or the genetic makeup of the hair and thus the follicle itself. So, the hair will grow back exactly the same as it was before - no thicker, no darker, no coarser.”

The ultimate pamper kit includes 10 different products, including a rose gold Hollywood smoother, brow perfector and gold Hollywood Browzer. There’s also an eyelash curler, spa headband, microfibre cleansing pads and a microfibre puff, complete with a five times magnifying mirror and compact mirror, all packaged in a handy transparent beauty case which has already come in extremely handy for weekends away.

The huge haul usually costs £99.95, but currently has £20 off, making it £79.95, which is already cheaper than two trips to the salon.

The tool I was most keen to try was the Hollywood Smoother , which costs £49.95 alone. The two-in-one hair removal and exfoliation beauty device uses sonic technology to remove dead skin and peach fuzz for a radiant complexion.

Dozens of shoppers have previously given it five star reviews, with Anna C writing: “I’ve always felt conscious of my face looking hairy. The Hollywood Browzer has completely transformed my skin. I’ve had so many comments about how radiant and smooth my skin looks!”

It’s safe to say that I was pretty excited to give it a go myself, so I got everything I needed to get started, which is surprisingly very little - a cotton pad and some toner.

To prep my skin I used a toner to remove any excess oil before switching on the Smoother , which has a subtle buzz as it vibrates. I followed the instructions, such as holding it at a 45 degree angle and keeping skin taut, using short downward strokes with very light pressure.

It was tricky to use at first, and I did nick my skin and draw a small amount of blood on my first try, however, I soon got the hang of it. I used the cotton pad to collect all of the hair, dead skin cells and built up debris and was stunned at how much fluffy white fuzz had parted with my face.

When I’d finished de-fuzzing my face, I popped on my moisturiser and couldn’t believe how soft my skin felt. And one of the added benefits of dermaplaning is that skincare products can work more effectively, as there’s no longer a barrier of hair, dead skin cells and built up debris in its way.

As well as this, it offers a perfectly smooth base on which to apply makeup, meaning my foundation went on like an absolute dream.

The Smoother uses replacement heads so it is easy to maintain your glow by simply replacing the heads when you need to. These come in at £19.95 for four, so still works out cheaper than heading to the salon, which is ideal if you’re looking at ways to cut costs, without compromising feeling your best.

I used other products in the pamper hamper to give myself a mini glow up, refining my eyebrows with the brow tool, curling my lashes and cleansing my face with the super soft microfiber pads. By the end of my mega bathroom makeover, I felt like I’d had an entire spa day with every inch of my face beautified.

You can pick up any of the Hollywood Browzer tools via their website , or also on Amazon.
