Christmas is almost here, which means it's time to tuck in to an overpriced Christmassy cocktail or a festive themed food item for a treat.
It's not every day that I visit Pret A Manger for lunch, purely because I think it can be quite expensive, but I thought I'd take the plunge when I spotted a rather delicious looking toastie on offer. I'm a sucker for a Christmas themed hot chocolate or a festive boxed sandwich, so when I saw the incredible 'Boxing Day' toastie on offer at Pret, I knew I had to indulge.
Part of its Christmas menu, the Boxing Day toastie is priced at an eye watering £5.50, so I wasn't too sure what to expect. The stuffed sandwich includes m ature Cheddar cheese, British turkey, pulled British ham, and our herby pork stuffing, finished with a dollop of caramelised onion chutney and sage mayo.

I'll be honest, when I read the sandwich description I found myself almost instantly salivating. Temptation got the better of me, and I knew I had to try this posh £5 toastie to see if it lived up to my expectations. Here's what I found.
The toastie
Once I'd gotten over the initial price of the toastie, I was intrigued to see how it actually tasted. At first glance, it looked pretty big, and was absolutely stuffed with filling.
Let's be honest, there's absolutely nothing worse than a sandwich with barely any filling, especially when it's promised, so I was impressed with that. I took a bite of the crunchy seeded bloomer bread and was absolutely blown away by the flavour.
The mature cheddar cheese was incredibly creamy and had the most satisfying cheese pull I'd ever seen. That, combined with the crunchy bread that was still light and fluffy on the inside, and my tastebuds were in heaven.
Next, it was onto the main event, the soft and succulent turkey with the juicy pulled ham. I was a little conscious that the toastie would be dry considering it contains two different types of meat, but it was quite the opposite.
The mature cheddar cheese moistened the meat just enough, and the herby pork stuffing gave it that classic Christmas taste we all know and love. I absolutely loved the caramelised onion chutney and sage mayo too, which added a herby yet pleasant kick to an all-round belter of a sandwich.
The only downside about the Pret Boxing Day toastie was the fact that it was pretty messy to eat - but that didn't bother me too much. Just make sure you've got a napkin or two handy, because this sandwich is so stuffed that it's bound to get messy.
The verdict
I hate to admit it, but this toastie might just have been the nicest toastie I've ever had. Don't get me wrong, £5 for a toastie is incredibly steep, but the ingredients made it so worth it.
Every bite was filled with so much flavour, and I could tell I was tucking into a good quality sandwich with fabulous ingredients. Yes, the toastie was a bit of a messy delight, but that's partly why I enjoyed it so much.
The Pret A Manger 'Boxing Day' toastie was basically the definition of the day itself - indulgent, a bit messy, and filled with lots of good food. I probably won't make a habit of getting this toastie purely because of the price, but as a treat, it was absolutely unreal.
