Halloween is a little over a week away, meaning that this half term is the perfect time to get in the spooky spirit and enjoy the last of the seasonal menus at your local coffee shops before Christmas takes over.
On Thursday, just in time for the kids’ week off school, Starbucks has launched a brand new drink that’s perfect for October 31, so we went along to see if it was a trick, or a treat.
What’s more exciting is that it’s not a coffee-based drink either, making it fun for all of the family to enjoy.

The new Sour Apple Frappuccino has swooped into stores, with lots of advertising branding at the Manchester Piccadilly Station branch promoting the black and green beverage. From the posters, it certainly looks the part for Halloween, with white mocha sauce dyed black dripping down the sides.
Using a cream base, the Frappuccino is sour apple flavoured, topped with a green apple whipped cream to really top it off. It’s definitely an improvement on last year’s Cherry and Scream Frappuccino - the weird chocolate finger sticking out of the cup was a bit off putting last year.
My medium drink cost £4.50, but you could opt for a small, or large, depending on how much you want to spend. In terms of flavour, I immediately thought of the apple and cherry Drumstick squashies, which are one of my favourite sweets - perfect for trick or treaters, too.
It was very tart, with the addition of the chocolate sauce making it ideal for those with a sweet tooth. Anyone who likes things like Skittles milkshakes will be all over the new limited edition launch. While the colour of the drink wasn't particularly vibrant, it definitely had a green tint to it, making it very on trend for the season.
Usually I’d order a caramel cream Frappuccino, although I had enjoyed the salted maple flavour for the short time it was around. That said, the sour apple is a welcome change for Halloween. It’s definitely less unsettling than last year’s chunky ‘bloody’ beverage, and was more ‘treat’ than ‘trick’.
And it’s not the only new item added for spooky season either, with Gingerbread Skeleton Biscuits returning to the treats section. Joining it is the new Rest In Chocolate Muffin, which is topped with a white chocolate tombstone.
Sustainable shoppers may be interested in the Glow In The Dark Reusable Cold Cup, which can also earn you a 25p discount on beverages each time you use it to order.
The new items are available in Starbucks stores and Drive Thrus now, but you’ll have to be quick if you want to get your claws on them, as they’ll vanish before you know it.
