I swapped my Jo Malone perfume for Aldi's £7 replica - here's what I thought

I'm a mega fan of Jo Malone scents, and have built up quite the collection throughout the years.

As soon as I saw that Aldi were selling its own Eau Du Parfum dupes of the luxurious brand, I was intrigued to say the least. Considering a small 30ml bottle of Jo Malone perfume will set you back £55, a £6.99 100ml bottle from Aldi sounded very appealing to me.

The popular supermarket chain is known for its array of dupes, particularly when it comes to perfume, with many shoppers praising its affordable alternatives. I've used the Hotel Collection Lime, Basil & Mandarin hand soap that smells exactly like the Jo Malone scent in the past, so I had high hopes for the perfume.

To me, there's nothing better than a fresh and luxurious smelling perfume. If I leave the house not wearing any, I feel like something is missing.

That's why I knew I had to powerwalk to my nearest Aldi store to pick up its 100ml Jo Malone dupe, to really see what all the fuss is about. I wanted to get my hands on my favourite Lime, Basil & Mandarin scent but could only find the 'Pomegranate' one.

Considering I've had a bottle of Jo Malone's 'Pomegranate Noir' in the past, I knew that I'd be able to give an accurate and honest review of the scent. Here's what I found.

How the bottles compared

Aesthetically, the perfume looked virtually the same as the glamorous Jo Malone bottles. For £7, the glass bottle of perfume had some weight to it, and generally looked really elegant.

I was actually really surprised when I took the perfume out of the box, because I wasn't expecting the bottle to look that good. If you were to glance at this quickly, it could easily pass for a Jo Malone item.

It had a very similar lid to the 100ml Jo Malone bottle, with a few minor differences in terms of the shape. The colour of the label and font was pretty much identical to the Jo Malone brand, with just a few small differences that were barely noticeable.

How the scent compared

Now, let's move onto the most important part - the scent. I was expecting bit things from Aldi considering they've got it spot on in the past, and I wasn't disappointed.

The scent of the 'No. 3 Pomegranate' was virtually identical to Jo Malone's Pomegranate Noir, and I was so impressed. I thought there might be a little difference between the two, like with the packaging, but it really did smell exactly the same.

The big difference

Naturally, nothing is perfect, and I did spot a few things that didn't quite live up to the Jo Malone quality. The actual consistency of the perfume when sprayed onto my skin was more watery, and less potent.

With a Jo Malone perfume, you can almost feel the slight tingle on your skin after a spritz. The Aldi version felt very light on the skin, and didn't have that longevity that Jo Malone offers.

I wore the perfume for a full day at work and could barely smell it by the end of the day - but that isn't necessarily a negative. As this perfume is such good value, it means you can spritz it as many times as you like without worrying about wasting it.

When I've had a Jo Malone perfume, I've almost been too scared to wear it at times because it's so expensive. I've found with the Aldi dupe I can wear it as often as I like, and not feel the guilt.

The verdict

I'm urging you all to run to Aldi and grab their Hotel Collection Jo Malone perfume dupes, because the products are seriously impressive. Granted, they might not last for as long as the Jo Malone original, but the scent is virtually identical - and that's all that matters.

To top it all off, the bottles are absolutely stunning, and look way more expensive than a £6.99 perfume. Why would I want to spend so much money on an expensive perfume when I can grab one at my nearest Aldi that smells just as good? I'm amazed to say the least!
