With many households finding it harder than ever to make ends meet, it's no surprise that customers are shopping around to find the best deals.
While budget stores Aldi and Lidl so often grab the limelight, there's another store that's been making waves in the supermarket world in 2022 and that's Iceland.
Along with The Food Warehouse, which is the same company and sells the same products, it's become increasingly known for its money-saving products.
Its reputation was boosted somewhat in the summer, when it launched a new range of cheaper everyday essentials to help customers during the cost of living crisis.
The range, including a loaf of bread for 69p and easy peelers for just £1 as just two examples, has gone down a storm with shoppers.
With that in mind, I decided to head there to do a small shop of around £20, to see how it fared.
I say 'a small shop' but in fact it didn't end up being that small at all, because for a total of £22.84, I actually came away with quite a haul.
My shopping included some basics like the aforementioned loaf, a four-pint bottle of milk for £1.65 and a box of Typhoo teabags for £1. It's not often you'll find 100 teabags for a quid these days.
I got a full family meal with diced chicken for £3.65, rice for £1.50 and a Patak's curry sauce for £1 and some frozen items to use throughout the week, including a bag of 20 Richmond skinless sausages for £2.50, and packs of French fries and hash browns for £1 each.
A box of 15 mixed sized eggs cost me £1.75, a tub of Just Like Butter Spread £1, and a six-pack of Warburtons crumpets 85p.
Not everything is cheaper. Its wafer honey roast ham for example, at £1 for a 130g pack, works out at 77p per 100g, whereas at Aldi, you can get a 400g pack for £1.89, which works out at 47p per 100g.
And its cheese, at £3 for a 400g block of lighter mature cheddar, is more expensive than Aldi's version, at £2.69.
But I think you'll agree that what I picked up for little more than £20 is pretty impressive. And even if you don't go there for everything, it's worth dropping in to see what offers are in store. Plus you can get free next day delivery if you spend £40 online, which is something Aldi and Lidl don't yet offer.
