Former Everton star Leon Osman has admitted his surprise at the possibility of Frank Lampard returning to Chelsea as manager.
Lampard left the Blues back in January with the club battling to avoid relegation from the Premier League. He had spent just under 12 months in charge at Goodison Park, before being replaced by Sean Dyche.
Chelsea are looking for a new manager after they sacked Graham Potter at the weekend. Early names linked with the job on a long-term basis included Julian Nagelsmann and Luis Enrique.

However, reports have emerged claiming that Lampard could be set to take on the job temporarily at Stamford Bridge. It has been claimed that the former Everton boss would only be in charge until the end of the season, when a long-term manager would be named.
Osman has expressed his surprise at seeing Lampard linked with a return to Chelsea so soon after leaving Everton. Lampard had spent two years as Chelsea manager, before he was dismissed in 2021 and replaced by Thomas Tuchel.
“It came as a surprise, I can’t pretend that it didn’t,” said Osman on Wednesday night’s edition of BBC’s Match of the Day.
“I wasn’t expecting him to be sacked from Everton and find himself as Chelsea manager within only a few months later.
“But he’s certainly a club legend and they (Chelsea) are looking for somebody with a big connection to the club to get the fans on side.”
