Relatives of an Iranian shopkeeper facing the death sentence for taking part in anti-government protests have urged Donald Trump to intervene to spare his life.

Erfan Soltani, 26, was expected to be hanged on Wednesday following his arrest in connection with demonstrations in the city of Karaj, according to Iranian Kurdish rights group Hengaw.
