'I am at a crossroads' - Charlie Bird gives honest and heartbreaking health update

Charlie Bird has given his supporters a very honest and heartbreaking update on his health.

The veteran RTE journalist, who is battling Motor Neurone Disease, has said that his health as well as his movement is deteriorating. The 73-year-old said in the update that he feels like he is "at a crossroads" in his journey.

Charlie has recently suffered a couple of falls due to the condition which he was diagnosed with in late 2021. Back in May he told his supporters he would be no longer able to reply to correspondence personally.

Taking to Twitter last night, he said: "I want to be very honest with everyone who is supporting me. My health is deteriorating and so is my movement. I think I am at a crossroads. But I want to continue to extend the hand of friendship. And I am going to continue to raise awareness for groups that need support."

Despite his ongoing health battles, Charlie continues to fundraise in aid of Irish charities including Pieta House and Irish Motor Neurone Association. His Climb with Charlie campaign has amassed over €3.2 million in donations.

Charlie was snapped last week enjoying the sunshine while at Bloom in the Phoenix Park. He shared on Twitter that he was "humbled" by the support he received on the day from attendees.
