Hyderabad: Rape accused inspector in 5-day custody

HYDERABAD: Rape accused suspended inspector K Nageswara Rao was sent to five-day custody of police by a local court on Monday.

The Vanasthalipuram police later took him in custody from Cherlapally jail. After he was arrested a week ago, Rao has been in judicial remand.

During his custodial interrogation, Vanasthalipuram police plan to hold a potency test, collect his DNA samples and quiz him about discrepancies in his earlier statements.

Rao has been accused of raping the wife of a man who was once arrested by him and was now in his employ. The couple said that after the rape, he took them at gunpoint in his car. The vehicle, however, met with an accident and the couple fled from his custody. They later filed a complaint. The cop had subsequently absconded, but finally surrendered. He is accused of rape, kidnap, and violation of Arms Act.

(The victim's identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme court directives on cases related to sexual assault)
