Adam Chicksen says there is no reason to "panic" at Notts County but says they must learn from their defeat to promotion rivals Chesterfield.
The Magpies missed out on the chance to close the gap to National League leaders Stockport on Tuesday night as they slipped to a 3-1 defeat against the Spireites having taken the lead in the first half.
Eli Sam had seemingly put Notts on course for victory but after the break, two goals from Lawrence Maguire and a stoppage-time penalty from Awkasi Asante sealed Chesterfield's win.
It meant the gap to Stockport remains at 12 points in the chase for the title and a return to the Football League but left-back Chicksen says the squad and the staff are keeping their cool.
"We've still got games in hand and there's no need to panic," he said.
"There's no panic going on around the lads or around the staff.
"We know what we're capable of.
"We've shown it and we've showcased it.
"If we're learning from a difficult defeat last night - and it does hurt - from what I've seen over the last games, and moving forward as a team, then if we carry on progressing like that the rest will take care of itself."
Defeat to Chesterfield ended a five-game unbeaten run for head coach Ian Burchnall's side but they do have the chance to bounce back quickly against Yeovil at home on Saturday.
Notts' form at Meadow Lane this season has been excellent which has undoubtedly underpinned their promotion push having only lost to Grimsby and Woking on their own patch.
And heading into that clash, Chicksen says the most important lesson to take from their defeat on Tuesday was how to be smarter with some of their decision making.
"It was a mixed bag of emotions," he said.
"It was going be a tight game start with and you know the pitch so there are no excuses with that.
"It was tight and we obviously got our noses in front but it was a game of two halves.
"They were shooting into their crowd and got their tails up.
"I thought we defended really well with digging deep to ride the wave, but maybe we could have been a bit smarter with some of our decisions as a group of lads.
"Maybe we could have tried to slow it down a bit more by trying to take the sting out of the game and to manage it a bit better.
"But they probably deserved the win looking at the result on how they went about the second half."
