Hurricane Vance Holds at Category 2 Off Mexico — But Its Worst Threat May Still Be Coming

A forecast map from the U.S. National Hurricane Center (NHC) shows the location and projected path of Hurricane Vance over the Pacific Ocean off Mexico’s coast on October 24, 2026. The forecast indicates a north-northwestward movement and warns that hazardous conditions may extend beyond the forecast cone. The Briefing:

  • Hurricane Vance is holding at Category 2 intensity with 110 mph (175 km/h) sustained winds, positioned about 365 miles south-southwest of Acapulco as of Saturday morning; no coastal watches or warnings have been issued.
  • Moving north-northwest at 7 mph, Vance is not on a direct collision course with any major populated area, but the storm's outer circulation is already generating hazardous surf and rough seas along portions of Mexico's Pacific coast.
  • If Vance intensifies to Category 3, it would become the season's 11th major hurricane — potentially tying an all-time Pacific record — and extend an already extraordinary six-storm streak of consecutive major hurricanes to seven in a row.
