A hunter in the US was shot dead by a dog in a freak accident after the canine stepped on an unsecure rifle in the back of the pickup truck they were in. The male victim, whose identity has not yet been confirmed, was travelling in the front passenger seat of the vehicle in Geuda Springs, Kansas, on January 21.
The dog had been riding in the back alongside the hunting gear when the incident happened and the man passed away at the scene, the Daily Star reports. It's not known whether the victim owned the vehicle or if someone else was with them in the driver's seat at the time.
It's also not been confirmed if the truck was stationary or moving when the hunter was fatally shot dead in the back. The Sumner County Sheriff's Office told KAKE News: “A canine belonging to the owner of the pickup stepped on the rifle causing the weapon to discharge. The fired round struck the passenger who died of his injuries on scene.”
