A MAN remains in custody after fronting court accused of trying to rob a store in broad daylight on a busy Hunter Valley Street.
Terrence Joseph Bardini, 38, made no application for bail in Cessnock Local Court on Friday and was formally refused bail.
He was not required to enter pleas to a string of charges, including six counts of break, enter and steal; break-and-enter with intent to steal; and theft.
Bardini was arrested at about 3pm on August 31, after police were called to a hardware shop on Vincent Street in Cessnock following reports a man was trying to shoplift.
Bardini was taken to Cessnock Police Station and charged.
The arrest comes after the establishment of Strike Force Cared earlier this year to investigate break and enters reported by supermarkets across the Hunter, which police believed were linked.
