Police in Renfrewshire are appealing for information following a suspected fraud in Johnstone.
On Monday, 28 March, a tradesman cold called a resident in the Peockland Gardens area and quoted a three-figure sum to carry out a job.
Over the next two days, the man completed this work and carried out a number of other tasks which had not been agreed on, before demanding a higher sum.
As a result, the victim – a woman in her 70s – paid the suspect a mid-four-figure sum.

Officers are following a positive line of enquiry but are asking for anyone with information, or any further victims in the area, to come forward.
Detective Constable Gordon Hunt said: “This was a particularly distressing incident for the victim, who was forced to pay over five times the agreed amount for work she did not require.
“If you have information which could assist our investigation, or you yourself believe you’ve been a victim of this same workman, please call police on 101, quoting incident 1139 of 4 April.”
