HealthCare.gov will have 152 participating insurers in 2027, down 14% from this year, according to CMS documents reported by The Washington Sun on Oct. 16. A separate tally from healthinsurance.org, last updated Oct. 8, counts at least a dozen insurers leaving marketplaces after 2026, led by Cigna's exit from all 11 states where it sells marketplace plans.
For affected households, the urgent question is not only price. People whose insurer is leaving will often be moved automatically into a plan from another company if they do nothing, and that plan may use different doctors, hospitals and drug lists.
