Sad day as refinery's closure to hit jobs and community

Alcoa will take a multibillion-dollar hit when the alumina giant shuts an ageing refinery and axes its remaining workers, triggering concerns about the flow-on impact on thousands of local jobs.

The US-listed company started shedding its workforce at the 60-year-old Kwinana Alumina Refinery in WA in January 2024.
