Hull's net zero journey picks up the Pace with marketing appointment

Hull creative communications agency Pace has added climate change campaign Oh Yes! Net Zero to its books as it strengthens its leadership team.

The collaborative movement of Humber-based organisations committed to taking action to achieve net zero is the latest in a growing list of sustainability clients. Pace has been selected as its preferred marketing agency partner to encourage more local companies – particularly SMEs – to be part of the journey.

Established last year by founding partners Reckitt, Hull City Council, Future Humber and the University of Hull, Oh Yes! Net Zero is already providing practical support for 150 businesses and organisations to create and deliver net zero plans. The aim is for Hull to lead the way in demonstrating how a city can tackle climate change. Potential members can sign up here .

Anita Pace, managing director, said: “We are delighted to be working with Oh Yes! Net Zero to create inspiring content to support members in making progress against their net zero plans while also encouraging more local organisations to join the movement.

“Sustainability is a cause that is close to our hearts. It’s a privilege to work with the Oh Yes! Net Zero team and I’m delighted that we are continuing to expand our client base of organisations committed to taking action on climate change.”

Oh Yes! Net Zero recently marked its first year with the publication of a report outlining progress made and lessons learned. The report was presented to MPs, political stakeholders, and policy makers at a parliamentary reception in Westminster and shared with Oh Yes! Net Zero members and other local organisations at an event in Hull, which Pace supported. It featured former BBC science editor David Shukman and former Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change Amber Rudd, speaking at Hull Truck Theatre.

Other Pace clients with sustainability at their core include city-based environmentally-friendly cleaning brand Bio-D and international waste plastic road company MacRebur. Bio-D is B-Corp certified, which means it is one of only 6,700 companies in the world that meets the highest sustainability standards, while Scotland-based MacRebur is committed to solving the worldwide waste plastic epidemic by processing plastic destined for landfill for use in road construction and surfacing products.

It comes as Pace welcomed Calvin Innes as creative director, with Jon Butterworth moving to the role of art director.

Calvin said: “My career has been shaped by looking for opportunities to work with ambitious teams who want to push the limits of creativity. Pace is an agency that has really impressed me with their growth over the last few years, and their plans for the future align perfectly with my own. They're talented, and hungry, and that's really exciting.”

He brings more than 20 years’ experience in the design and marketing industries working with brands including Sony, Adidas, Nestle, Team GB and JCB. In 2013 he established digital marketing agency DA Creative Studio in Hull which won several awards for work with high-profile clients. His solo work has also picked up several awards, the most recent being the Drum Chip Shop Award in 2022 for his out of home concept for THINK! Road Safety.

Anita added: “Calvin has a great reputation for creating high impact, memorable campaigns that really connect with people. I’m delighted to welcome him to Team Pace. Together with Jon, we have a formidable creative pairing and I’m excited to see what the future holds.”
