With his previous adventure behind him, Pine now goes by Alex Goodwin, working as an MI6 officer, running a small, quiet surveillance unit in London. However, after a chance encounter with a lieutenant of his old adversary, Pine is thrust back into action, tasked with infiltrating the operations of Columbian businessman Teddy Dos Santos (Diego Calva).

Jetting off to the South American country, Pine soon joins forces with local businesswoman Roxana Bolaños (Camlia Morrone) as the pair uncover a plot involving arms, a guerilla army and a conspiracy that could result in the destabilisation of an entire nation.

Based on the characters of John le Carré and written by David Farr, who adapted the first season, The Night Manager’s second outing promises to be equally as gripping as its pulse racing debut.

Is The Night Manager S2 based on a book?

Unlike season 1 of the show, which was based on the book of the same name by spy thriller legend John le Carré, The Night Manager season 2 is an original story from writer David Farr.

Of the second season, Farr says: "Last time there was a book that was adapted, which meant changing and shifting narratives to work well for screen. But this time, there was a blank page, but still with wonderful, iconic characters gifted to us by le Carré. My job was to take these characters into a new space that felt deeply faithful to le Carré."
