Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix 2026 Preview

Russell is 68 points behind his teenage teammate Kimi Antonelli and two off his former teammate Lewis Hamilton, who can almost taste his first victory in the red of Ferrari. Hamilton has now registered back-to-back second place finishes in Grands Prix. In his maiden season with Ferrari, the closest he got to a GP podium was fourth.

The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya has been a decent track for the Scuderia even in their troubled recent years too, with its mix of high- and low-speed turns offering something for everyone. It's the reason it hosted pre-season testing for so many years.

Not only did Antonelli lead every lap in a dominant outing in Monaco, he also gained some much-needed confidence off the line, both at the start and after the red flag. Five consecutive victories equals Hamilton's longest ever winning run, while only five drivers in the entire history of F1 have strung together more.

Russell, in the same car, has failed to score in his past two outings, and last made a GP podium in the second race of the season. Whether it's a coping mechnism or what he truly believes, the 28-year-old appears wholly convinced that bad luck is to blame for the vast deficit to his teammate.

The Brit, however, has been streets ahead of Antonelli so far at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. The Italian, incidentally, had to retire his car on his only previous outing here.

Having each had to retire last time out, Max Verstappen, Charles Leclerc and Lando Norris will be keen to claw back some ground this weekend.
