How to unlock characters in DragonSword: Awakening

DragonSword: Awakening is now live on PC for players worldwide after a minor delay, and there are plenty of characters you can add to your team. While the game might appear like a gacha, it actually isn’t. You can unlock every character you want by simply playing the game, but you can’t have them all right at the beginning.

Unlocking them will require you to progress and clear plenty of in-game content. This guide will help you figure out how you can unlock all the characters and add them to your roster.

How to get new characters in DragonSword: Awakening

The secret to unlocking new characters in DragonSword: Awakening is hidden behind tickets, a.k.a. Fate’s Invitation. This is a special currency that has only one true use: to unlock new characters.

Once you have a ticket, you can visit the Exchange section from the menu. You will find all the locked characters and the unlocked ones over there. Spend the ticket to unlock the character you like, and you can then add them to your team.

There’s no fixed order in which you need to unlock a character. Certain names will be added automatically to the game as you clear more quests and missions. For the rest, you will need to use tickets, and that is the only method. Which character you want to unlock first completely depends on you and the type of team you are planning to build.

I mentioned earlier that there are no microtransactions. You can get a ticket by two main methods.

The content of DragonSword: Awakening is divided into different chapters. It all begins with the Prologue, where you begin as Lute and meet Castella and Johnny. Once you complete the Prologue, you will get your very first ticket. It takes roughly 15 minutes for you to get all the tasks done.

From now on, you’ll receive a ticket each time you finish a chapter. Since chapter lengths vary, it’s wise to keep some tickets in reserve.

Additionally, you can clear Hero Quests. These are special missions available for certain characters. They remain locked at first; to unlock them, you must progress through a portion of the story. Once you have access to a Hero Quest, you can bump it to earn more tickets. Redeeming a ticket works the same regardless of how you obtain it.
