How to turn four annual leave days into nine in March with St Patrick's Day hack

With St Patrick's Day just around the corner, and landing on a Friday, many people may be looking forward to a bit of time off during the annual holiday.

If you are well organised and have all of your days already scheduled off since the year began, or if you have yet to even think about when you will be taking annual leave, it's easy to get some extra days with just one trick, however, you must be working a Monday to Friday 9am - 5:30pm job for this to work.

Due to the day that the festivities fall on, and by using some annual leave days, you could be able to snag nine days off for just four annual leave days, you might want to get the holiday requests in soon though.

St. Patrick’s Day is traditionally a Bank Holiday in Ireland when festivities and parades take place across the country and people celebrate when St. Patrick banished the snakes from Ireland.

As St. Patrick's Day lands on a Friday this year, these four days will also result in nine days off, given that you will have already gotten the Saturday and Sunday prior to March 13 off.

  • Monday, March 13
  • Tuesday, March 14
  • Wednesday, March 15
  • Thursday, March 16

With St Patrick’s Day on a Friday, you will then have Friday 17 March - Sunday 19 March off.

So by giving up only four days of annual leave you will have managed to nab a nine-day holiday for yourself from March 11 until March 20 to enjoy the weather and the longer stretch in the evenings.
