At first glance, New York’s Chelsea seems to have little in common with its London namesake. There are dramatically fewer big-name designer boutiques and chi-chi restaurants and certainly no famous blue “soccer” club.
But look closer and the similarities emerge. Both have waterside locations – in New York, you’re on the west of Manhattan looking across the Hudson River to the New Jersey shore – both are significant artistic hangouts, and both have handsome heritage properties. Chelsea is just grittier, architecturally more varied and culturally significantly more diverse.
