If you’re an X Factor hopeful, and your ambitions include becoming the next Harry Styles, then we might have just the thing for you.

Music streaming service Spotify has recently launched a “karaoke mode” which provides you with the lyrics to your favourite songs, as well as encourages you to belt them out, before providing a score.

Well, we know what we’re planning for our next Big Night In!

The service even offers you a scorecard to let you know just how accurately you matched the lyrics and notes.

But, what exactly is Spotify’s “karaoke mode”, and how can I access it? Here’s everything you need to know...

How can I get the new Spotify karaoke mode?

Spotify “karaoke mode” is available to all Spotify users (even those using the free option), and, all it requires is an update to the latest version of the Spotify app on the device you use to listen to music.

The feature hasn’t been rolled out for everyone just yet but is expected to make it to screens globally in the next few months.

How does the new Karaoke mode work and how do I use it?

On any song, scroll down on the screen to the Lyrics section on mobile, or find it by pressing the microphone button in the bottom right of the desktop version.

On the top right-hand side of the Lyrics section, there is an option to select the “Sing” icon, which has a microphone next to it.

Once you’ve done that, lyrics will appear on the screen, and so will an auto analyser tool. The new mode will access your device’s microphone, in order to listen to your voice and ultimately provide an accuracy score out of 100, depending on how well you’ve performed.

Let the many karaoke sessions begin.

When the song is over, the performer will get a rating out of ten based on how well they did.

What other new features have Spotify added?

The app has added a range of other new features this year, including the ability to hide and unhide songs, allowing users to block songs from appearing on app-generated playlists and radio stations.
