A weight-loss jab could be made available to thousands of people across the country - but how does it work and who will be able to get it?
Health Secretary Steve Barclay says the primary focus of a new £40m Government pilot scheme is to expand access to such treatments in order to tackle obesity and related conditions such as type 2 diabetes and cancer. The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) gave approval for the use of appetite suppressant Wegovy (semaglutide) earlier this year.
The drug will soon be available on prescription through the NHS, reports Birmingham Live. Here is more information about the jab, who will be eligible and when it will be available.
